Songs of Love and Tragedy

VOCES XII of Rowan University

December 3, 2016 7:00pm
$15 / children under 12 free

In this intimate program, you’ll hear beautiful songs of love, alongside the dramatic story of Jephte, a ruler of ancient Israel who is faced with a dire dilemma: break a sworn oath to God, destroying his credibility as a judge, or sacrifice his only beloved daughter?

VOCES XII, an elite vocal ensemble from Rowan University, brings to life the high drama of the late Renaissance and early Baroque. It was a time when composers were discovering new ways to express the extremes of human emotion, from the ecstatic heights of love as expressed in madrigals, to the depths of tragedy as in Giacomo Carrisimi’s Historia di Jephte.
